On Stage in Spokane, Washington, 1976—Part 1

The following Elvis photos are from his April 27, 1976, show in Spokane, Washington. Along with thousands of others, I ignored the “No Cameras Allowed” signs when I entered the Spokane Coliseum that evening. Under my jacket was a 35 mm camera with a 135 mm telephoto lens. My pockets were stuffed with rolls of Ektachrome slide film.

My seat was in the lower balcony, stage right. As soon as Elvis walked out on stage, I started snapping away. No need to use a flash unit; the lights on stage were bright enough for photography.

I watched most of the concert through the lens of my camera. A few days later, after processing the film and throwing out the blurred and out-of-focus slides, I was left with 78 images of Elvis on stage. Below are six of those photos from that memorable evening. Photo galleries 7 and 8 contain 12 more images from the same Spokane concert.

If you would like to purchase 8" X 10" prints of any of these photos, click on the link below. These prints are made from high resolution scans made from the original 35 mm slides taken at the concert. Of course, the prints do not have watermarks on them like the preview images below. — Alan Hanson
